Cleveland wedges have been on golfers short list for twenty years now. The CG12 and CG14, Cleveland’s latest wedge models, are no exception – they provide the things golfers look for in a wedge, and more. Let’s delve a little deeper into these great new wedges. First, the Cleveland CG12 wedge. This model was introduced in 2007′ as a successor to the CG10 and CG11 wedge models. Other than the CG12 being the next higher model number however, it has not one thing more in mutual with the CG11. The Cleveland CG12 has outstanding characteristics that include a classic design while boasting an innovative fabricating procedure that make this wedge technologically advanced. The huge hype for the CG12 was the introduction of “Zip Grooves.” Zip grooves are larger than the intermediate wedge grooves which grant debris to be swept away, resulting in cleaner ball contact. These grooves are milled to greatest or most complete or best possible allowable conformance dimensions using a proprietary CNC mill bit to create envelope stretching geometry. Even though Cleveland proclaims the CG12 as being a wedge for all skill levels, it is widely conceived that the wedge is in all likelihood better suitable for the more experienced or accomplished player. The CG14 wedge, also introduced later in 2007′, included the Zip Grooves and the innovative formulating process. In addition, Cleveland declared the “Gelback Technology” to the design. The Gelback is a visco-elastic, vibration-dampening material. The aim of the Gelback is to remove unnecessary vibration on mis-hits, while permitting the player the necessary feedback from the club head, adding a soft yet responsive feel. The CG14 is considered by all counts, a game betterment wedge, that of which take on a more “forgiving” nature, much like the CG11. Both the CG12 and CG14 wedge models come in the classic finishes, chrome and black pearl. Bounce selection is fixed in the CG14 model to low and standard. The CG12 model has a low, standard and high bounce selection. In summary, both the CG12 and CG14 Cleveland wedges live up to the high Cleveland standard. The CG12 wedge is in all probability better suitable for the accomplished player while the CG14 wedge is more forgiving and will help the higher handicapper. Both the CG12 and CG14 wedges made the 2008′ Golf Digest Hot List, no little feat in itself. The choice is yours but will probably come down to wedge preference and skill level. If you are looking for a new wedge this year, the CG12 and CG14 will have to be on your short list. |
